Our high quality lime products are used as a raw material in chemical manufacturing. Our products ability to neutralize acid in the most stringent of manufacturing conditions allows Pete Lien & Sons to be the premier choice.
The largest utilization of lime products across the globe is for the production of Steel. Our lime removes impurities, acts as a fluxing agent, all while improving the overall quality of the steel.
Pete Lien & Sons provides highly specified lime products for the treatment of pulp and paper mill liquid wastes as a coagulant in color removal, a filtration conditioner, and as a neutralizing agent. It is also used in the recovery of valuable by-products from pulp and paper mill wastes.
Our limestone allows the glob of molten glass mixture to stand up in the mold long enough not to seep out while cooling during the glass bottle production process. Its main function is to introduce Calcium Oxide into glass recipe which is needed to improve chemical resistance and durability. It also acts as flux in glass manufacturing.
Lime is a basic industrial chemical that is used in a wide variety of mining and oil extraction processes:
Precious Metals
Some mining processes consist of mined ore being placed in a huge heap on a base pad where leaching solvent helps dissolve the metals in the ore, thus allowing the precious metals to be segregated from the ore. The solvent used to dissolve the ore is cyanide based. To prevent the creation of toxic hydrogen cyanide during processing, our lime is added to the extracting solution to ensure that the acidity during cyanidation is maintained over pH 10.5.
Soda Ash
Natural soda ash mines use the “lime-soda process" to manufacture caustic soda (sodium hydroxide). Sodium carbonate (soda ash) reacts with lime slurry to form caustic soda and precipitated calcium carbonate as co-products.
Mine Remediation
Our high quality lime products allow for a safer and more environmentally friendly mining process, preventing hazardous conditions from occurring underground or in the runoff process.
Drilling Applications
Lime is used in the oil drilling industry as a flocculating agent, allowing the drilling process the ability to be environmentally friendly. Our products also provide calcium and pH control, preventing acidic and corrosive conditions from occurring. Lime helps make the drill mud 'stackable & packable', so it can be easily handled.
Our Calcium Carbonate facilitates drilling by suspending the cuttings, controlling pressure, stabilizing exposed rock, & providing casing buoyancy. Calcium Carbonate is also used to build a barrier preventing the drilling fluid from leaking into the surrounding soil.
Pete Lien & Sons sells a variety of ingredients for cement manufacturing - Iron Ore, Gypsum, Limestone, and Calcium Hydroxide.
Our products bring strength to the product without a negative environmental impact from production.
The #1 filler ingredient in the plastics industry is Calcium Carbonate. Our product helps the polymer extrusion process and provides a pigment benefit all while enhancing resistance, stiffness and hardness for an optimal end product.
