At Pete Lien & Sons, giving back to the communities where we live and work is a core part of who we are. One of the most meaningful ways we do that is by supporting local students as they pursue higher education.
Supporting American Indian Students
Established in 2013, the Pete Lien & Sons American Indian Scholarship aims to empower American Indian students from South Dakota, North Dakota, and Wyoming as they further their education. Eligible students must be full-time college attendees at South Dakota Mines, maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA, and have graduated from a regional high school.
This year, we are proud to recognize two outstanding recipients of the American Indian Scholarship, both attending South Dakota Mines in Rapid City:
- Brandon Allen of Flandreau, SD
- Austin Griffith of Pierre, SD
Investing in Our Employees’ Families
Pete Lien & Sons also offers the PLS Scholarship Program, created to support the children and grandchildren of our full-time employees. Applicants must plan to attend an accredited college, university, or trade/vocational school and meet GPA requirements that reflect their academic progress. Recipients are selected annually by a committee appointed by the company’s President, based on academic achievement, a short essay, and dedication to full-time study.
We’re honored to announce this year’s PLS Scholarship recipients:
- Madisen Crowe, Rapid City, SD – South Dakota State University
- Sarah Newton, Rapid City , SD– Minnesota State University, Mankato
- Levi Timm, Rapid City, SD – South Dakota Mines

- Elena Perez, Laramie, WY– Laramie County Community College
- Emma Kimberling, Gillette, WY – University of Mary
- Teegan Rieb, Fort Collins, CO – University of Wyoming

“Each of these students represents the spirit of hard work, integrity, and community that defines Pete Lien & Sons. We’re proud to play a small part in their educational journeys and can’t wait to see what they achieve next.” Says Pete Lien.
