RAPID CITY, S.D. — In celebration of Arbor Day and their ongoing commitment to sustainability, Pete Lien & Sons held their annual Tree Planting Event. The event brought together employees and their families to promote environmental responsibility through concurrent mine reclamation.
As part of this year’s celebration, Pete Lien & Sons invited the Central High School Photography Class to participate in a special photo contest. Students were given the opportunity to photograph the tree-planting event, and the winning images were selected for use in Pete Lien & Sons' communications and promotional materials.
Participating student award winners included:
Abbie Cina, Bailey Williams, Barrett Pourier, Bella Huehl, Bijou Wilcox, Dylan Wipf, Harlie Parkis, Kennedy Block, and Ulani Denny.
The Pete Lien & Sons team selected the top photos from the submissions and each winner received a cash award towards future education opportunities. The top honor went to Bijou Wilcox, whose work stood out for its composition and strong sense of connection.

“For decades Pete Lien & Sons has mined essential minerals to sustain our communities. Our mined materials are used for applications that benefit our community members including clean drinking water, paper products, safe roads and homes, pharmaceuticals, fresh produce from farm to table, acid rain mitigation, CO2 absorption, and pet food to name a few. We’re proud to support community sustainability through our mined materials and land reclamation efforts. This event allowed us the opportunity to develop students and show appreciation for our incredible team members,” said Pete Lien, President at Pete Lien & Sons. “It was inspiring to see the event through the lens of these talented young photographers.”
Pete Lien & Sons extends sincere thanks to the Central High School Photography Class and their instructor, Roxanne Rathbun, for participating in this meaningful collaboration.
