Environmental Statement

Environmental stewardship is an integral part of the culture of Pete Lien & Sons and is the way we routinely conduct business. Our goal is to care for the land, the habitat, and the neighbors with deep respect through carefully constructed mining and concurrent reclamation plans.

Environmental Sustainability

With the continual goal of leaving the world a better place than how we found it, Pete Lien & Sons is committed to land reclamation & development.

Our sustainability efforts began at Pete Lien & Sons’ origin and continue through today.

In 1961 (15 years before reclaiming was required by law) the U.S.A. Department of Agriculture issued a Letter of Recommendation for Achievement in Conservation and Reclamation to Pete Lien & Sons.

In 1980 the U.S.A Environmental Protection Agency awarded Pete Lien & Sons with the Earth Care Award. The award was presented by Robert Redford, and to this day, Pete Lien & Sons is the only quarrying company to have ever received the award!

Years later, in 2018, the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining & Safety (DRMS) and Colorado Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (CSSGA) selected Pete Lien & Sons as the award winner of the Jack Starner Mined Land Reclamation Award for Innovation and Collaboration. According the director of DRMS, “Pete Lien & Sons has shown extraordinary efforts in thinking outside the box to facilitate successful reclamation on a difficult site. Through the innovative thinking of using fish emulsions from a state fish hatchery and the mixing of expended mash from a distillery, Pete Lien & Sons has been able to supplement poor growth medium to support a sustainable vegetative cover.”
